Xsensio secures fresh funding for lab-on-skin chip

Swiss healthtech startup Xsensio has raised €6 million to accelerate the development and commercialization of its wearable chip, a “lab-on-skin” platform that can analyse proteins and hormones in real time. The funding round will support clinical validation, industrial scaling and new partnerships in the digital health and pharmaceutical sectors.

The company’s ultra-thin chip is designed to be integrated into skin patches, wristbands or other wearables, continuously monitoring key biomarkers from sweat and other skin secretions. Unlike traditional wearables that focus mainly on heart rate, movement or temperature, Xsensio targets molecular signals that provide deeper insights into a person’s health status.

Real-time molecular data for remote healthcare

The core of Xsensio’s platform is a proprietary nano-sensor technology capable of detecting very low concentrations of clinically relevant molecules. By tracking changes in proteins and hormones, the chip aims to support early detection of disease, personalized treatment adjustments and continuous monitoring of chronic conditions.

Potential use cases include monitoring stress hormones such as cortisol, tracking cardiovascular risk markers, and supporting drug efficacy studies in real-world settings. For clinicians, the system promises a new stream of high-frequency data that could complement traditional blood tests and hospital-based diagnostics.

Positioning in the digital health and diagnostics market

The €6 million injection will help Xsensio advance regulatory pathways and scale manufacturing in collaboration with industry partners. The company is positioning its chip as a platform technology that can be adapted to multiple diagnostic and remote monitoring applications, from hospital care to consumer wellness.

As global healthcare systems invest heavily in telemedicine and remote patient monitoring, demand is rising for sensors that go beyond basic vitals. With its focus on continuous molecular analytics at the skin’s surface, Xsensio is aiming to bridge the gap between traditional laboratory diagnostics and everyday wearables, potentially reshaping how health data is collected and used in preventive and precision medicine.
