WtEnergy turns waste into clean gas in Barcelona push

WtEnergy advances waste-to-energy transition from Barcelona

Barcelona-based Waste to Energy Advanced Solutions (WtEnergy) is accelerating the shift from traditional waste disposal to advanced waste-to-energy systems, using proprietary gasification technology to transform biomass and non-recyclable waste into clean, usable energy.

From waste streams to valuable syngas

WtEnergy focuses on the energy recovery of industrial waste, municipal solid waste fractions and agricultural residues. Instead of sending these materials to landfills or low-efficiency incineration, the company applies high-temperature gasification to convert them into synthetic gas (syngas).

This syngas can be used to generate electricity, produce process heat for factories, or feed into district heating networks. In some configurations, it can also serve as a feedstock for advanced biofuels and low-carbon hydrogen, supporting the broader energy transition.

Helping industry cut emissions and fuel costs

By targeting sectors with high thermal demand, such as cement, ceramics, chemicals and food processing, WtEnergy offers a way to replace part of their fossil fuel consumption with locally sourced waste-derived energy. This can reduce CO2 emissions, lower exposure to volatile natural gas prices and support circular economy goals.

The company’s modular plants are designed to integrate into existing industrial sites, allowing clients to convert on-site residues or nearby waste streams into reliable energy. This distributed model aims to cut transport-related emissions and keep value within regional economies.

Positioning Barcelona as a circular innovation hub

Operating from Barcelona, a growing hub for climate tech and cleantech innovation, WtEnergy is part of a new wave of companies seeking to treat waste as a strategic resource. Its technology aligns with European objectives on decarbonisation, renewable energy deployment and reduction of landfill dependency.

As regulators tighten rules on waste disposal and industrial emissions, demand for scalable waste-to-energy solutions is expected to grow. WtEnergy aims to position its gasification systems as a key tool for companies and municipalities looking to meet climate targets while extracting more value from existing waste streams.
