Engineers monitoring AI-driven energy management dashboards in a modern hospital plant room

xWatts raises £1.6M to cut hospital energy waste by 25%

London’s xWatts raises £1.6M to tackle energy waste

London-based climate-tech startup xWatts has secured a £1.6 million funding round to roll out its data-driven platform designed to slash energy waste by more than 25% in large facilities such as hospitals and university campuses. The fresh capital will support product development, hiring and expansion across the UK and Europe.

AI-powered optimisation for complex buildings

xWatts focuses on high-consumption, mission-critical sites where energy systems are complex, fragmented and often poorly monitored. Its platform ingests real-time data from building management systems, sensors and utility meters, then applies AI algorithms and advanced energy analytics to identify inefficiencies, forecast demand and automatically fine-tune heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting.

By targeting operational waste rather than just hardware upgrades, xWatts aims to deliver rapid savings with minimal disruption. The company says early deployments in hospitals and campus-style estates have demonstrated potential reductions of over 25% in avoidable consumption, translating into lower bills and a smaller carbon footprint.

Hospitals and campuses under pressure to decarbonise

Healthcare providers and universities face mounting pressure to cut emissions while dealing with tight budgets and ageing infrastructure. Large estates often run 24/7, making them among the most energy-intensive public assets. xWatts positions its technology as a way to unlock hidden efficiency without compromising patient care, research or teaching environments.

The funding will enable the startup to deepen integrations with existing building management systems, enhance its predictive models and expand its customer success team to support multi-site rollouts. The company also plans to build partnerships with facilities management firms and energy service companies to accelerate adoption.

Part of a wider wave of climate-tech innovation

The raise underscores growing investor interest in software-led energy efficiency solutions that can deliver measurable impact quickly. As governments tighten net-zero regulations and energy prices remain volatile, tools that convert building data into actionable savings are increasingly seen as critical infrastructure. With its new backing, xWatts is positioning itself as a key player in modernising how hospitals and campuses manage and optimise their energy use.
