Shah Rukh Khan charms the audience at the Red Sea International Film Festival, joking that he is “too short” for James Bond but perfect for a villain.
The “King of Bollywood” has once again addressed the perennial question of his Hollywood aspirations, specifically regarding the iconic role of James Bond. Speaking during a sold-out “In Conversation” session at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia this weekend, Shah Rukh Khan shut down rumors with his trademark self-deprecating humor. When asked by a fan if he would consider donning the tuxedo as the next 007, the superstar quipped that he lacks the necessary physical stature for the British spy, preferring instead to rule his own cinematic domain.
‘I Am Too Short, But I Can Be the Bad Guy’
Khan, who is currently riding a wave of massive commercial success following his recent action blockbusters, explained that playing James Bond requires a specific towering presence that he feels he does not possess. “I am not tall enough to be James Bond,” he told the cheering crowd. “But I think I am brown enough to be the villain who destroys him.”
The actor elaborated that at this stage in his career, he finds antagonist roles more compelling than the traditional hero archetype he has embodied for over three decades. Citing his early work in films like Darr and Baazigar, Khan expressed a desire to return to darker, more complex characters, suggesting that if Hollywood ever calls, it should be for a role that allows him to deconstruct his romantic hero image.

Prioritizing Indian Cinema
Beyond the jokes, Khan reiterated his long-standing philosophy regarding the West. Unlike many of his contemporaries who actively seek crossover success, Khan maintained that his priority remains expanding the global footprint of Indian cinema. “My aim is not to go to Hollywood and be a small fish,” he stated. “My aim is to bring Hollywood-level technology and storytelling to India and make our films watched by the whole world.”
The Search for Bond Continues
The question comes at a relevant time, as Eon Productions reportedly nears the final stages of casting the successor to Daniel Craig. While names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson have circulated in the press, no official announcement has been made. Khan‘s comments effectively remove him from a race he was never officially running, but they highlight his unique position as a star who feels no need for Western validation to affirm his global status.
Khan is currently filming his next project, King, in which he stars alongside his daughter Suhana Khan, marking a passing of the torch within his own family dynasty.
