Mutable Tactics secures pre-seed funding for AI-driven drone teams

Cambridge-based startup Mutable Tactics has raised €1.8 million in a pre-seed round to accelerate the development of its AI platform for coordinated drone team autonomy. The company is building software that allows multiple drones to operate as a synchronized unit, sharing data and adapting to changing conditions in real time.

The funding will be used to expand the engineering team, deepen work on core AI algorithms, and run field trials with early partners in security, defense and critical infrastructure protection. By focusing on autonomous collaboration rather than single-drone control, Mutable Tactics aims to unlock new capabilities for aerial robotics at scale.

AI-powered autonomy for complex missions

At the heart of the company’s technology is a software stack that enables drones to coordinate as a distributed system. Instead of relying on a single operator or central controller, the platform allows each drone to interpret mission objectives, negotiate roles within the team, and dynamically re-plan when conditions change.

This approach is designed for complex, high-stakes scenarios such as border surveillance, search and rescue, and protection of energy or communications assets. By combining computer vision, sensor fusion and advanced path-planning techniques, the system aims to reduce operator workload while improving coverage, resilience and safety.

Positioning within Europe’s defense and security ecosystem

Operating from Cambridge, one of Europe’s leading deep-tech hubs, Mutable Tactics is positioning itself at the intersection of autonomous systems, defense technology and critical infrastructure security. The company plans to work closely with European industry and government stakeholders to ensure its platform complies with emerging regulatory frameworks around the use of autonomous drones.

As European policymakers and operators seek to strengthen resilience and situational awareness, demand for secure, interoperable drone autonomy solutions is expected to grow. With fresh capital and a focus on multi-drone coordination, Mutable Tactics is aiming to become a key player in the next generation of AI-enabled aerial operations.
