Engineers testing an autonomous vehicle with AI perception systems on rough, unstructured terrain near Munich

Driveblocks raises €3.5M to advance AI terrain perception

Driveblocks secures fresh capital for off-road AI perception

Munich-based startup driveblocks has raised €3.5 million to accelerate development of its modular AI perception technology, designed to help autonomous vehicles understand and navigate complex, unstructured terrain beyond standard roads.

The funding round will support the company’s push to bring its software stack to market for industrial, logistics and off-highway applications where traditional lane-based perception systems struggle.

AI that sees beyond lanes and road markings

driveblocks is building a perception platform that fuses data from multiple sensors—such as cameras, lidar and radar—to generate a robust, real-time understanding of the surrounding environment. Unlike many urban-focused systems, its technology is tailored for environments with no clear road boundaries, including construction sites, mines, ports and agricultural fields.

The startup’s modular architecture allows operators and OEMs to integrate only the components they need, from basic obstacle detection to advanced scene understanding. This flexibility is aimed at reducing integration costs while meeting the stringent reliability demands of commercial fleets and heavy machinery.

Targeting industrial and logistics autonomy

With demand rising for automation in logistics yards, depots and off-road industrial sites, driveblocks positions its platform as a key enabler of safe, scalable autonomy. The company focuses on high-availability, fail-safe perception, a critical layer for autonomous driving stacks that must operate in dust, mud, low visibility and changing terrain.

Industry observers view specialized autonomous driving and computer vision solutions for non-urban settings as a growth segment, as operators seek efficiency gains without relying on fully public-road self-driving. The new capital will allow driveblocks to expand its engineering team, deepen partnerships with vehicle manufacturers and pilot its technology in real-world industrial environments.

By concentrating on unstructured terrain rather than crowded city streets, driveblocks aims to carve out a defensible niche in the broader autonomy and mobility ecosystem while contributing to safer, more predictable deployment of intelligent machines.
