Brilliance raises €6 million for RGB laser chip innovation

Enschede-based startup Brilliance has secured a €6 million funding round to accelerate the development of its integrated RGB laser chip technology. The Dutch deep-tech company is working on compact, energy‑efficient laser solutions designed to power the next generation of high-performance displays and optical systems.

Integrated RGB laser chips for next‑gen displays

Brilliance is developing a single chip that combines red, green and blue laser sources, enabling precise color control in a much smaller footprint than conventional laser modules. This approach is aimed at applications such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) headsets, micro‑projectors, advanced optical communication systems and high‑brightness industrial displays.

By integrating all three primary colors on one platform, the company targets lower manufacturing costs, improved reliability and simplified system design. Its technology is built on advanced photonics and semiconductor processes, allowing scalable production for global markets.

Funding to accelerate product development and scaling

The fresh €6 million injection will be used to speed up R&D, expand the engineering team and move from prototypes toward commercial‑grade products. Brilliance plans to strengthen partnerships with device manufacturers and display integrators seeking compact, high‑efficiency light engines.

Part of the investment will be directed toward refining chip performance, including higher output power, better thermal stability and improved color uniformity. The company also aims to establish pilot production lines that can demonstrate reliable, volume‑ready manufacturing for its integrated RGB laser platform.

Positioning the Netherlands as a photonics hub

Based in Enschede, a city known for its strong photonics and semiconductor ecosystem, Brilliance benefits from close ties to research institutions and specialized manufacturing partners. The funding round underscores growing investor confidence in European deep‑tech and the strategic role of integrated laser solutions in future display and sensing technologies.
