Autonomous excavator retrofitted by Bedrock Robotics operating on a US construction site

Bedrock Robotics secures $270M to automate US construction

Bedrock Robotics lands $270M to scale autonomous construction

Bedrock Robotics has raised a substantial $270 million Series B round to accelerate its mission of turning conventional heavy machinery into fully autonomous workhorses for U.S. construction sites. The financing is co-led by CapitalG, Alphabet’s independent growth fund, and the Valor Atreides AI Fund, underscoring growing investor confidence in industrial automation and applied AI.

Retrofitting excavators and bulldozers with autonomy

The company focuses on retrofitting existing excavators and bulldozers rather than building new machines from scratch. By integrating advanced sensor suites, high-precision GPS, and proprietary AI algorithms, Bedrock Robotics enables standard fleets to operate with minimal human intervention.

This retrofit model is designed to help contractors upgrade their equipment at a fraction of the cost of purchasing new autonomous vehicles. It also allows large and mid-size builders to deploy autonomy across mixed-brand fleets, a key barrier in traditional heavy-equipment modernization.

Addressing labor shortages and safety risks

U.S. construction firms continue to grapple with chronic labor shortages, rising wages, and persistent worksite safety challenges. Autonomous heavy equipment promises to keep projects running on schedule while reducing exposure to hazardous tasks such as trenching, grading, and night operations.

By shifting operators from cabs to remote monitoring roles, Bedrock Robotics aims to create safer, more data-driven job sites. Continuous machine telemetry and predictive maintenance analytics can also cut downtime and fuel consumption, improving overall productivity and project margins.

Expansion plans and competitive landscape

The fresh capital will likely be directed toward scaling deployments across major U.S. infrastructure, energy, and commercial building projects. Investment from CapitalG and the Valor Atreides AI Fund positions Bedrock Robotics as a prominent player in the emerging market for autonomous construction technology, competing with both industrial OEMs and younger robotics startups.

As public and private infrastructure spending increases, demand for reliable, retrofit-friendly autonomy platforms is expected to grow. With this Series B round, Bedrock Robotics is signaling its ambition to become a foundational technology provider for the next generation of U.S. construction sites.
