Apple iOS 26.2 Update: New Controls Let You 'Unblur' the Lock Screen

Apple iOS 26.2 Update: New Controls Let You ‘Unblur’ the Lock Screen

Apple has released iOS 26.2, introducing a highly requested “Liquid Glass” slider that finally allows users to adjust the opacity of Lock Screen elements, alongside major updates to Apple Music and accessibility features.

Cupertino — In a move that directly addresses months of user feedback, Apple has officially rolled out iOS 26.2, a significant mid-cycle update that refines the company’s controversial “Liquid Glass” design language. The update, which became available to the public late Friday, provides iPhone owners with granular control over the translucency effects on their Lock Screens, effectively allowing them to “roll back” the blurred aesthetic that defined the initial launch of iOS 26.

Taming the ‘Liquid Glass’ Aesthetic

The “Liquid Glass” interface, introduced earlier this year, replaced solid UI elements with frosted, semi-transparent layers intended to mimic the depth of visionOS. While visually striking, the design drew criticism for obscuring custom wallpapers and making text difficult to read.

With iOS 26.2, Apple has expanded the customization tools introduced in version 26.1. Users can now access a dedicated “Glass Slider” within the Lock Screen customization menu. This new control lets users shift between a “Clear” mode—which renders the time and widgets with crisp, solid edges—and the default “Tinted” mode, which applies the signature frosted blur. This adjustment specifically targets the clock and widgets, ensuring they remain legible without overpowering the background image.

“It’s a subtle change, but a necessary one,” noted a senior UI designer at TechCrunch. “Apple is acknowledging that while Liquid Glass is the future of their design system, it shouldn’t come at the cost of personal expression or readability.”

Flash Notifications and Offline Lyrics

Beyond visual tweaks, iOS 26.2 introduces a suite of functional upgrades. A new accessibility feature, “Screen Flash for Alerts,” utilizes the entire display to pulse with light when a notification arrives. This serves as a silent, visual alternative to the rear LED flash, designed for users who keep their phones face-up on their desks.

Apple Music also receives a major quality-of-life improvement: Offline Lyrics. Subscribers can now view synchronized lyrics for their downloaded tracks even without an active internet connection, a feature long requested by commuters and frequent flyers. Additionally, the Podcasts app has been updated with auto-generated chapter markers, allowing listeners to scrub through episodes and jump to specific segments with greater ease.

Smarter Health and Safety

The update also refines the Sleep Score algorithm in the Health app. The new metric now accounts for sleep consistency and wakefulness with greater sensitivity, replacing the previous, broader scoring ranges.

On the safety front, Apple has enhanced its “Enhanced Safety Alerts” system for users in the United States. The feature now provides rich, map-based notifications for imminent threats such as floods or wildfires, integrating real-time data directly into the alert banner.

iOS 26.2 is available now for iPhone 15 and newer models via the Software Update menu.

Finally, an update that listens to user feedback! Being able to adjust the blur on the Lock Screen makes a huge difference—it’s great to see Apple giving us more customization options without compromising the sleek design. Hopefully, this means more user-friendly tweaks ahead.
