Ana Maiques brings brain science to the mainstream

On a recent episode of the EU-Startups Podcast, CEO Ana Maiques, co-founder of Barcelona- and Boston-based neurotechnology company Neuroelectrics, discussed how cutting-edge brain science is moving from the lab into everyday clinical practice. Her mission: to make personalized, non-invasive treatments for neurological and psychiatric disorders accessible worldwide.

From research project to global neurotech scale-up

Neuroelectrics emerged from years of academic research into brain activity and electrical stimulation. Under the leadership of CEO Ana Maiques, the company has evolved into a fast-growing scale-up that designs wearable devices capable of reading and modulating brain signals.

The company’s technology combines EEG-based brain monitoring with non-invasive brain stimulation, supported by advanced AI algorithms that analyse neural data in real time. This allows clinicians to tailor stimulation patterns to individual patients, opening new possibilities for treating conditions such as epilepsy, depression and chronic pain.

Reimagining neurological care with data and AI

In the interview, CEO Ana Maiques emphasized that brain disorders represent one of the world’s largest unmet medical needs. Traditional drugs often have limited effectiveness or severe side effects. By contrast, digital therapeutics based on precise electrical stimulation and rich neurodata can be continuously optimized and remotely monitored.

Neuroelectrics is working with hospitals and research centers in Europe and the United States to validate its solutions in rigorous clinical trials. The company’s long-term vision is a new standard of care in which home-based brain stimulation is prescribed like medication, guided by cloud-based analytics and supervised by clinicians.

Building a deep-tech company from Europe

Beyond the science, the podcast explores the entrepreneurial journey of CEO Ana Maiques as a female founder in deep tech. She highlights the importance of patient capital, regulatory expertise and strong partnerships to bring complex medical devices to market.

From its European roots, Neuroelectrics is positioning itself as a global player in neurotechnology, demonstrating how European innovation can lead in highly regulated, science-driven industries while directly impacting patient lives.
