Runeasi secures €1M to industrialise smart movement analysis

Belgian healthtech spinout Runeasi, born out of KU Leuven, has raised €1 million to accelerate the rollout of its AI‑powered movement analysis platform. The fresh capital will be used to scale product development, deepen clinical validation and expand commercial partnerships across Europe and beyond.

Runeasi develops wearable and software technology that helps running coaches, physiotherapists and sports scientists understand how athletes move in real time. By combining sensor data with advanced biomechanics models and AI algorithms, the platform identifies movement inefficiencies and potential injury risk factors that are invisible to the naked eye.

From university lab to global sports and rehab market

The company is a direct spinout from decades of research at KU Leuven’s renowned human movement sciences and sports medicine departments. Its core technology uses lightweight wearable sensors attached to the body to capture detailed running mechanics, including impact forces, stability and symmetry.

The data is processed in the cloud and translated into intuitive dashboards for practitioners. Coaches and clinicians can view objective metrics, segment each phase of the running gait and track progress across sessions, moving beyond subjective visual assessment to evidence‑based decision‑making.

Targeting injury prevention and performance gains

The new funding will enable Runeasi to refine its AI‑driven analytics, integrate with existing sports performance and rehabilitation platforms, and build a broader library of reference data from elite and recreational runners. This will strengthen the system’s ability to personalise recommendations for each athlete.

By giving practitioners access to lab‑grade movement analysis on the field or in the clinic, the startup aims to shorten recovery times, reduce overuse injuries and optimise training loads. The company is also exploring applications in other endurance sports and in clinical populations, where subtle gait changes can be an early indicator of musculoskeletal or neurological issues.

The €1 million round marks a significant step for Runeasi as it transitions from research project to commercial healthtech player, positioning the KU Leuven spinout at the intersection of digital health, wearable technology and sports science.
