Recruiter using a digital background screening platform to detect AI-generated job applications and deepfake candidates

Veremark secures $26M to tackle AI fraud in recruitment

Background screening platform Veremark has raised $26 million in fresh funding to combat the growing wave of AI-generated job applications and deepfake candidates in global hiring. The investment underscores mounting concern among employers that sophisticated AI tools are making it easier for applicants to falsify identities, credentials and work histories at scale.

AI deepfakes push verification to the forefront

Recruiters worldwide are reporting a surge in candidates using AI-written CVs, automated interview assistants and even manipulated video identities. These trends are forcing HR teams to move beyond traditional reference checks and basic identity verification.

Veremark offers a cloud-based platform that automates checks on identity, employment history, education, criminal records and professional qualifications. By integrating directly with applicant tracking systems, the company aims to provide real-time, tamper-resistant verification that can flag inconsistencies and potential fraud before a hire is made.

Using AI to detect AI-enabled fraud

The newly raised capital will be used to expand Veremark‘s use of machine learning and data analytics to detect patterns associated with synthetic or manipulated applications. This includes tools to identify deepfake video interviews, cloned voices and repeated use of the same AI-generated text across multiple candidates.

With cross-border hiring on the rise, the company is also investing in compliance capabilities to navigate complex data protection and labor regulations in multiple jurisdictions. That includes secure handling of sensitive personal information and adherence to regional privacy rules.

Rising demand from global employers

Enterprises in sectors such as financial services, healthcare and technology are increasingly required to demonstrate robust know-your-employee processes. For these organizations, a single fraudulent hire can create regulatory, financial and reputational damage.

By positioning itself as a trusted layer of digital trust in the hiring process, Veremark is aiming to become a core infrastructure provider for global recruitment. The latest funding round is expected to accelerate its product roadmap and international expansion as employers race to keep pace with rapidly evolving AI-enabled fraud.
