Anthropic courts Abu Dhabi’s MGX as $350B AI valuation looms

Abu Dhabi’s MGX circles stake in Anthropic amid soaring AI valuations

Abu Dhabi-based investment platform MGX is reportedly in talks to acquire a stake in artificial intelligence pioneer Anthropic, as the San Francisco company pursues a potential valuation of up to $350 billion. The move underscores the Gulf region’s accelerating push into advanced AI infrastructure and foundational model development.

Anthropic, best known for its large language model family and enterprise-focused AI safety research, has rapidly become one of the most sought‑after startups in the global generative AI race. Backed by major technology and cloud providers, the company is seeking fresh capital to scale computing capacity, expand its product suite and deepen strategic partnerships with governments and Fortune 500 clients.

Strategic play for Abu Dhabi’s AI ambitions

For MGX, a potential investment would align with Abu Dhabi’s broader strategy to position itself as a global hub for AI innovation, data centers and next‑generation semiconductor demand. The emirate has been channeling billions into advanced technologies, including cloud infrastructure, sovereign AI models and specialized AI chips, to reduce reliance on hydrocarbons and build a diversified, knowledge‑based economy.

Analysts say a stake in Anthropic would give Abu Dhabi exposure to one of the leading Western AI model providers at a time when demand for secure, compliant and audit‑ready enterprise AI solutions is surging. It would also strengthen the region’s hand in negotiations around AI regulation, cross‑border data flows and long‑term compute supply.

AI bubble risk or long-term infrastructure bet?

The potential $350 billion valuation places Anthropic in the same league as some of the world’s largest listed technology companies, despite still being privately held. This has reignited debate over whether current AI startup pricing reflects a sustainable long‑term opportunity or an emerging speculative bubble.

Supporters argue that foundational AI models and the GPU-heavy infrastructure behind them are becoming critical global utilities, justifying premium valuations. Skeptics counter that revenue models are still unproven at scale and that regulatory headwinds around AI safety, data privacy and copyright could weigh on future growth.

If finalized, an MGX–Anthropic deal would mark one of the most high‑profile cross‑border transactions in the current AI cycle, highlighting how sovereign and strategic capital is reshaping the competitive landscape of advanced computing.
