Seabound CEO Alisha Fredriksson Drives Maritime Decarbonisation

The global shipping industry accounts for nearly 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions, making maritime decarbonisation a critical challenge. Dailyza can reveal how climate tech startup Seabound is addressing this crisis directly at the source. Led by co-founder and CEO Alisha Fredriksson, the London-based venture is pioneering onboard carbon capture technology to trap emissions before they enter the atmosphere.

Pioneering Onboard Carbon Capture

Alisha Fredriksson has dedicated her career to climate action, transitioning from environmental activism and green jobs to launching her own startup. Under her leadership, Seabound has developed a novel device that connects to a ship’s exhaust. The system traps up to 95% of the carbon dioxide emissions using solid sorbents, turning them into temporary storage blocks that can be safely unloaded at ports.

Decarbonising Global Shipping

The maritime sector relies heavily on fossil fuels, and transitioning to alternative energy sources could take decades. Seabound offers an immediate, retrofittable solution for existing cargo ships. By capturing CO2 onboard, shipowners can meet strict international environmental regulations without waiting for next-generation fuels.

Scaling Clean Tech Infrastructure

The startup has already secured significant interest from global shipowners and venture capital investors. As Seabound prepares for larger sea trials, the focus shifts to building post-combustion infrastructure at ports to recycle or permanently store the captured carbon. With the International Maritime Organization targeting net-zero emissions by 2050, pressure is mounting on fleet operators. This circular approach positions the company as a key player in the transition to net-zero shipping.
