Tropic raises oversubscribed €91.3M Series C

Norwich-based AgTech startup Tropic has closed an oversubscribed €91.3 million Series C funding round, underscoring investor confidence in its approach to building more resilient, higher-yield crops for a warming planet. The fresh capital will enable the company to accelerate product development, expand commercial partnerships and scale its technology platform globally.

Advancing climate-resilient crop innovation

Tropic focuses on applying advanced plant genetics and biotechnology to develop crops that can better withstand climate change, pests and disease, while improving yield and quality. Its platform uses cutting-edge gene editing and trait discovery tools to address some of agriculture’s most pressing challenges, from food security to reduced chemical use.

By tailoring traits such as disease resistance, shelf life and stress tolerance, Tropic aims to help growers and food producers reduce waste, stabilise supply and improve profitability. The oversubscribed nature of the round signals strong demand for scalable, science-led solutions in the global AgTech and sustainable agriculture markets.

Scaling from Norwich to global markets

Headquartered in Norwich, a city with a growing reputation for agricultural research and life sciences, Tropic plans to use the Series C funding to deepen its R&D pipeline and expand commercial operations in key crop-growing regions worldwide. This includes hiring across scientific, regulatory and business development roles, and strengthening collaborations with major seed companies and food supply chain partners.

Positioning for the next phase of AgTech growth

The new investment places Tropic among Europe’s best-funded AgTech startups at a time when investors are increasingly focused on technologies that can deliver both climate impact and commercial returns. As governments and corporations seek to decarbonise food systems and protect yields against extreme weather, platforms that combine rigorous science with clear market applications are attracting heightened attention.

With its latest funding milestone, Tropic is positioned to play a larger role in shaping the future of climate-smart agriculture, bringing advanced crop traits from the lab to fields and greenhouses around the world.
