Ark Climate platform supporting German municipalities to reduce CO2e emissions

Ark Climate backs German cities to cut 100m tonnes of CO2e

Ark Climate secures €2.1 million to turbocharge local climate action

Berlin-based startup Ark Climate has raised €2.1 million in fresh funding to help German municipalities unlock up to 100 million tonnes of CO2e reductions through smarter, data-driven climate action. The company targets cities and towns that are under pressure to deliver on Germany’s ambitious decarbonisation and Net Zero goals but often lack the tools, data and capacity to act at scale.

Helping municipalities turn climate pledges into executable plans

Across Germany, local governments are responsible for a large share of emissions from buildings, transport, energy and waste. Yet many municipalities still rely on fragmented spreadsheets, outdated emissions inventories and manual planning processes. Ark Climate offers a software platform that centralises local climate data, models different abatement scenarios and translates them into concrete investment roadmaps.

The startup’s platform helps city officials identify the most effective measures – from building retrofits and district heating upgrades to electric mobility and renewable energy deployment – and quantify their expected impact on CO2e reductions, costs and timelines. This allows municipalities to prioritise projects, apply for funding and communicate clearly with citizens and local businesses.

Data-driven climate finance for cities

Unlocking capital and accountability

A key promise of Ark Climate is to bridge the gap between local climate ambition and available capital. By providing standardised, transparent data on projected emissions cuts and financial needs, the platform can make it easier for municipalities to access national and EU-level climate finance, as well as private investment.

With Germany striving to hit its 2045 climate neutrality target, scalable tools for local governments are becoming critical. If the 100 million tonnes of potential CO2e savings that Ark Climate has identified can be realised, German municipalities could make a significant contribution to national and European climate objectives while improving air quality, energy security and urban resilience.
