Quantonation raises €220M to double down on quantum startups

Quantonation secures €220M for second quantum technology fund

French deep-tech investor Quantonation has closed its second investment vehicle at €220 million, reinforcing its position as one of the most active early-stage backers of quantum technologies worldwide. The new fund will target seed and Series A startups building commercially viable products on top of advances in quantum computing, quantum sensors, and quantum communications.

Focus on early-stage quantum and deep physics ventures

Quantonation has built its strategy around turning fundamental research in physics into scalable businesses. The second fund will continue to invest globally, with a particular focus on Europe and North America, backing teams that spin out of leading research labs and universities.

The firm typically supports companies working on enabling technologies such as quantum processors, cryogenic electronics, photonics, and advanced materials science, as well as software layers like quantum algorithms and error-correction tools. The goal is to help founders bridge the gap between scientific proof-of-concept and industrial deployment in sectors including finance, pharmaceuticals, energy, and logistics.

Growing institutional interest in quantum infrastructure

The €220 million close signals rising institutional confidence in quantum as a long-term infrastructure play. The fund is backed by a mix of institutional investors, corporate partners, and family offices that view quantum as a strategic technology layer comparable to early cloud or semiconductor investments.

As governments in Europe, the United States, and Asia roll out multi-billion-euro national quantum programs, private capital is increasingly seen as critical for translating public research funding into commercial outcomes. Quantonation aims to position its portfolio companies to benefit from these initiatives, providing not only capital but also support on IP strategy, industrial partnerships, and international expansion.

Strengthening Europe’s quantum ecosystem

By closing its second fund at this scale, Quantonation is expected to play a central role in shaping Europe’s quantum startup landscape, helping local founders compete with well-funded rivals in the US and Asia. The firm’s expanded firepower will allow it to lead larger rounds, follow on in its strongest performers, and back a broader range of applications as the quantum market matures from research-driven pilots to early commercial deployment.
